Sandvik Surface Solutions will use this year’s ZOW fair to showcase a number of different design trends in laminate and melamine coating for the furniture industry.

As a major supplier of plain and textured press plates and endless press belts, Sandvik is working closer on design innovation in this field, with a close look to the décor paper industry and laminate producers to develop a range of unique surface design solutions.

This approach will be summarised in the company’s SteelArt collection, launched earlier this year at the company’s major new in-house design facility. SteelArt includes a number of innovative new surface textures and finishes, as well as the latest developments on existing designs that have already enjoyed significant market success.

The company will also highlight the opening of the design centre itself, with facilities that include two laboratory presses and a gallery of more than 1000 surface designs.

This focus on innovation has driven developments that now enable the company to achieve textural depths of up to 800µm to realize a natural appearance. As well as making it possible to reflect the real character of natural wood surfaces, textures can also be used to deliver practical benefits including ease of cleaning and resistance to dirt or finger marks.

Finally, with the emphasis so heavily on design, Sandvik will be aiming to raise a few eyebrows with what it describes as a “surprising” new.
